Manuel and Karen both graduated from Plainfield High School in 1975 and 1976 respectively. They both attended Purdue University where Manuel received his degree in 1979. They were married in 1980 and moved to Denver Colorado where they started their family and lived for 5 years. Upon their return from Colorado in 1985, Manuel attended Indiana Christian University where he received his degree in Mortuary Science in 1986. In 1988 they purchased the funeral home from his parents, Ruth Jo and Norwood Gentry. Manuel and Karen have three children, Lauren, Ryan and Erin. They are members of the Plainfield United Methodist Church. Manuel is a member of the Plainfield Masonic Lodge #653, Plainfield Optimist Club and the National and Indiana Funeral Directors Associations.
Ryan graduated from Plainfield High School in 2003 and joined the firm in 2006 after attending Indiana State University. He then attended Ivy Tech's Mortuary School and graduated in 2009. He received his funeral directors license in 2010. Ryan is married to Michelle (Webber) Gentry and has two children, Harper and Jaxson. They are members of Plainfield United Methodist Church and Indiana Funeral Directors Association.
Wendell joined the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home in 1996. He received his training from the Mortuary Science Dept. at Indianapolis Christian University. He married his wife Gayle in 1990, and they have a daughter named Kelsey. As an experienced embalmer and funeral director, Wendell's dedication to serving families fits in with Hampton-Gentry's philosophy of earning every family's trust and loyalty.
Morris Mott is currently a minister and has his own ministry traveling throughout the United States. He received his embalming and funeral service training in his home state of Mississippi. He joined the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home in 1990. He went into full-time ministry in 1996 but has continued to work on an at-need basis with Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home. He married his wife Angela in 1991, and they have a son, Jace. He and his family reside in Plainfield.
R. Norwood Gentry, husband of Ruth Jo Gentry, graduated from Butler University and later in 1942 from Indiana Mortuary College. In 1952 Norwood and Ruth Jo moved to Camden Indiana and purchased a funeral home. During their twelve years there Norwood was elected as the Carroll County Coroner. When Mark Hampton of the Hampton Funeral Home in Plainfield suddenly died in 1964, Norwood and his wife Ruth Jo came to Plainfield and purchased the funeral home and renamed it the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home. Norwood went into semi-retirement when Manuel Gentry, his son, bought the business in 1988. Norwood continued to be active in the funeral home until his death on February 9, 2000.
Ruth Jo (McGoldrick) Gentry graduated from Broad Ripple High School and attended Butler University. She married R. Norwood Gentry on September 19, 1943. Together they raised four children, Jody Kaveney and Rhea Thompson both of Colorado, James Gentry of California, and Manuel Gentry of Plainfield. She and her husband Norwood owned a funeral home in Camden, IN before purchasing the Hampton Funeral Home in July of 1964. She was a member of the Plainfield United Methodist Church, the PEO Sisterhood, Tri-Kappa Sorority and the Plainfield Womans Club. She passed away July 14, 2008.
