Dorothy Joan Smith

Dorothy (Joan) Smith, 83, of Powder Springs, GA passed away on January 16, 2023 following a brief illness. She was born on November 23, 1939 in Iowa City, IA to the late Frank and Dorothy Gleason. Joan was a 1958 graduate of Clayton High School. She was an avid family photographer and was never without a camera at gatherings. She also enjoyed playing card games with her friends and on the computer. In her most recent years, she took great joy in attending her annual reunions in Kentland, IN and traveling to visit family with her sisters. Her last job was as a trainer at MSC for 10+ years prior to retirement. Joan enjoyed a loving marriage of 60 years with her husband Gary and was loved by all who met her. Joan was preceded in death by her siblings Dale Gleason, Phyllis Fay, Jean Weno, Frank Gleason and Paul Gleason. She is survived by her husband Gary Smith of Powder Springs, GA; sons and daughters-in-law Danny and Carmala Smith of Douglasville, GA and Darrell and Nancy Smith of Powder Springs, GA; grandchildren Jurgen Smith of Germany, Raissa Smith of Little Rock, AR, Chauncey Smith of Powder Springs, GA and Noelle Smith of Douglasville, GA; great grandchildren Madison Rivers of Little Rock, AR and Kairus Grasso of Douglasville, GA; sisters Linda Bryant of Clayton, IN and Connie Mitchell of Mooresville, IN. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Hampton Gentry Funeral Home located at 106 Shaw Street, Plainfield, IN 46168. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.
