During her childhood the family moved to Paragon Indiana. It was here she graduated and met her husband, the late Henry Malcolm Haase who preceded her in death in 2003. Together they owned Haase Shoes and Plainfield Plaza. Moving to Plainfield in 1962, they raised their family and became involved with the community. As a member of the Plainfield Woman's Club, she served as President from 1990-1992 and later as Chairperson of the "A Step Above" Award - presented yearly to honor a community member, who went above and beyond in their professional service. She had a great love of music, poetry, reading and education. For many years she worked with the fifth grade class at Van Buren Elementary, assisting students with their oral reading skills and donating books to encourage life-long reading. Friends knew her for her occasionally poetry and come February, many would receive a Valentine's Day card to brighten spirits.
