Virginia A. Babcock, 81 of Avon, Indiana passed away on Friday, February 1, 2019. Known to all as Ginny, she was born on March 7, 1937 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Arthur Clyde Richardson and Sarah LaVerne Mayhew. On September 2, 1955, she married the love of her life Robert (Bob) A. Babcock. Ginny went to McClelland grade school and both she and Bob graduated from Ben Davis High School.
Ginny was employed by Kressge’s and Indiana National Bank early on and then worked as a stay-at-home mom after her daughters were born. Virginia went to work for Babcock Construction, Inc. after the girls graduated high school. Upon retirement Bob and Ginny served the United Methodist Church by doing missionary work for 35 years with Volunteers in Mission. Through their mission work they have helped in building churches and parsonages within the United States. Their work also took them to Bosnia-Herzegovina where they completed a hospital and built housing for refugees during the war. Ginny devoted her life giving to others and her family through her many church activities, being president of the PTO at Westlake Grade School, leading Brownie and Girl Scout Troops, and Youth Groups. She also served others through music, singing with the Sweet Adelines and ministering through Stephen Ministries.
Ginny is survived by her husband, Bob of 63 years; daughters, Patricia Babcock (Dianne Calhoun) and Debra Calhoun (Chuck); three grandchildren, Shaun Graham, Lucas Calhoun, and Brooke Hilgers (Jerad); and one great grandson, Brayden Calhoun. She is preceded in passing by her parents.
Services will be held Thursday, February 7th at Danville United Methodist Church, 820 W. Mill St, Danville IN. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 followed by the service at 7:00pm. Interment will follow on Friday, February 8th with a committal service at 10:30am at Floral Park Cemetery in the mausoleum chapel, 425 N. Holt Rd. A luncheon will follow afterwards at Danville United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Danville United Methodist Church Building Fund or the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society in Ginny’s name. Arrangements are made through Hampton-Gentry Funeral, Plainfield, IN. Services will be held Thursday, February 7th at Danville United Methodist Church, 820 W. Mill St, Danville IN.
