Susan M. Durham

Susan Marie (McKinney) Durham, 77, passed away on December 9, 2019 at Hendricks Regional Hospital in Danville.  She was born on March 1, 1942, in Rockcastle County, Kentucky.  She was a daughter of William Riley McKinney and Mary Audrey (Graves) McKinney.  Susan was a shift manager at a White Castle in Indianapolis in the early 1960s. She married Leeman Durham on September 25, 1965 in Indianapolis. Susan became a homemaker, raising their four children and working as a childcare provider to several other children. She was an elementary school room mother and volunteered in various ways during her children’s school years.  Susan was committed to her children’s education and took pride in seeing all of them graduate from college. She was 57 years old when she earned her GED.  Susan was a member of the First Baptist Church of Plainfield and a former member of the Westview Baptist Church of Indianapolis. She was part of the team at First Baptist that planned the annual spring Joy Prom and fall social for people with disabilities.  Survivors include sons, Tim Durham of Erlangen, Germany; Bob Durham of Coatesville, Indiana; Bill (Silvia) Durham of League City, Texas; daughter, Anne (Andrew) Smith of New Palestine, Indiana; brothers, Cecil McKinney of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky and Casper McKinney of Richmond, Kentucky; grandchildren David Durham, Ellen Durham, Liliana Durham, Carolina Durham, Aaron Smith and Casey Smith; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Leeman Durham, in 2005; her parents; brothers, Leonard McKinney, Riley McKinney, Cossie McKinney and Wayne McKinney; sisters, Lou Manda Stephens, Lillian Denney, and Rosa McKinney; several cousins, nieces and nephews.  Visitation will be Friday, December 13, 2019 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm in Hazelwood Christian Church (9947 S. CR 0, Clayton, IN 46118).  Funeral services will be Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 10:30 am in the church.  Burial will follow at Clayton Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Westview Baptist Church (2031 Westview Dr. Indianapolis, IN 46221), First Baptist Church of Plainfield (1012 Stafford Rd. Plainfield, IN 46168) or to Gideons International to purchase Bibles.
