Shirley Ann Murphy, a beacon of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion, passed away peacefully on April 6th, 2024 at the age of 90, surrounded by the warmth of her family's love. Born on September 19, 1933, in Canton, Ohio, Shirley was the cherished daughter of Sophie and Theodore Wuchnic. Throughout her remarkable life, Shirley epitomized kindness, grace, and boundless affection. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, Harold R. Murphy Jr, her sister Betty Kusic, her brother Robert (Bob) Wuchnic, and her granddaughter, Lindsay Murphy. Though they may have departed this world, their spirits undoubtedly live on in the hearts of all who knew them. Shirley's legacy is carried forward by her devoted children: daughter Colleen Murphy, her son Dave Murphy and wife, Melinda Murphy, her son Rick Murphy and wife, Nancy Murphy. She was also a loving grandmother to Chris Anderson, Ryan Cage, Brendan Cage, Jenny Murphy (and Joe Bertoletti), Karen Murphy, and Michael (and Kristi) Murphy, and a cherished great-grandmother to Sophie Anderson, Owen Anderson, Rue Baty, Milo Baty, Anica Bertoletti, Dolores Bertoletti, Karina Murphy, and Lucas Murphy.

At the tender age of 17, Shirley met the love of her life, affectionately known as "Murph," and the following year, in 1952, they embarked on a journey of love and companionship in marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, raising their three children in Findlay, Ohio, before relocating to Kokomo, Indiana, in 1970. She and “Murph” were married nearly 42 years until his passing in 1994.

Shirley's passions were as diverse as they were enriching. She loved Frank Sinatra, and his music played on her stereo every day of her life. An avid reader throughout her 90 years, she found solace and joy in the pages of countless books. In her retirement years, she joined a women's golf league in Plainfield, Indiana, where she exhibited her competitive spirit and love for the game where she even achieved the coveted hole-in-one during one of her rounds of golf. After retiring from golf, she continued to join two ladies’ groups where Shirley's sharp wit and adept card-playing skills endeared her to friends and family alike, creating cherished memories during lively card games and social gatherings.

Above all else, Shirley's heart belonged to her family. She took immense pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, celebrating their accomplishments with unwavering enthusiasm. Her love knew no bounds, and she relished the opportunity to share family news and keep everyone connected. A woman of deep faith, Shirley was a devoted member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, where her spirit was nourished by the teachings of God. Her unwavering belief in the power of love and compassion touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. In her final days, Shirley was surrounded by the love and care of her family and the compassionate staff at the nursing home where she resided. Though her physical presence may be gone, her spirit remains ever-present, a guiding light for all who were fortunate enough to know her. Shirley Ann Murphy leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion. Her memory will be cherished by all who were touched by her grace and warmth. May her gentle soul find eternal peace, and may her legacy of love continue to inspire generations to come.
