Shirley A. Cordray, 88, of Plainfield, passed away August 26, 2018. She was born December 27, 1929 to the late Morris and Thelma (Bidgood) Richardson in Indianapolis, IN. She was a 1948 graduate of Plainfield High School and a lifetime member of the Plainfield Friends Meeting. She was a homemaker and worked doing payroll for several years. Shirley loved her husband, family, grandkids and friends. She was an avid reader belonging to the Avon Mystery Book Club. Shirley spent her spare time knitting sweaters and bonnets for children all over the world, knitting more than 150 in the last years she did it. She also enjoyed the several months she and Roy lived in Auckland, New Zealand in 1986. Shirley is survived by a son, Bruce D. (Dawn) Cordray; two daughters, Pamela J. (Bill) Smith and Valerie A. Cordray (Robert Cardenas); a brother, Ron (Judy) Richardson; 5 grandchildren, Rebecca Cordray (Peter) Tarrant, Douglas Cordray, Ashley Cardenas (Dale) LaGasse; Brandon (Raven) Cardenas, Elizabeth Cardenas (Matt Van Ess); and three great grandchildren, Mirra LaGasse, Elijah Cardenas and Ezra Tarrant. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Cordray. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Wednesday, August 29 in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Smile Train or Susan G. Komen for Breast Cancer would be appreciated.
