Sally "Maxine" Neeley finished her journey on this earth Sunday, December 17, 2017. Born on August 19, 1929, she was the daughter of Alice (Pingleton) and Luther Johnston. She was married to Chet Neeley for 47 years before he passed away in 1994. She was also preceded in death by a son, David Neeley; sisters, Oma Woods, Betty Johnston; brother Henry Johnston; granddaughter Kandi Travelstead. Maxine was a graduate of Plainfield High School where she was a cheerleader and the first female usher in the downtown movie theater. She was a strong women who built her own chicken house, raised, butchered and sold chickens, first female bus driver for Mill Creek, worked at Davis Orchards, excellent seamstress and cook, always spoke her mind, loved bluegrass music and sports. Maxine retired from the post office where she was a mail carrier in Clayton. In retirement, she & Chet ran the "Now and Then Company Store" at Mansfield, Indiana for several years and never knew a stranger. At age 70 she obtained her realtor license. Maxine was a snowbird who wintered in Melbourne, Florida and in the summer was involved in the Putnam County Fair Women's building and won "Baker's Best" many times. Survivors include her sons, Mike (Jan) and Pat (Noiy) Neeley; daughter, Gail (Dion) Patrick; 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She loved the great grand kids sports and would be found usually behind home plate giving the umpire a hard time and lots of support to her great grandchildren. She will be missed by all until we meet again in heaven. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at the Maple Hill Cemetery Chapel (709 Harding St. Plainfield, IN 46168) where friends may call from 11:00 am until time of service.
