Ruth Ann (Long) Conger, 89, of Plainfield, passed away on August 21, 2021. She was born on October 27, 1931 to the late Thomas and Sarah (Abbott) Long in Beech Grove, IN. Ruth was a 1949 graduate of Avon High School. She was a charter member of the Plainfield Church of Christ. Ruth worked for the Indiana Department of Corrections and retired in 1996. She was awarded one of Indiana's highest honors, The Sagamore of the Wabash. Ruth enjoyed feeding people as often as she could and that includes the local stray cats around the neighborhood. She loved spending time with her family most of all. Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, James George Conger; two sons, Bruce and Bennie Conger; a daughter, Jean Conger; siblings, Clancy Long, Clarice Pickett, Jack Long, Noble Long, Betty Dickey, Cecile Thweatt and Richard Long. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 24, 2021 in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 25, at 10:00 am in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery. Survivors include a son, James C. (Nancy) Conger; two daughters, Julie (Edward) Goforth and Amy (Kenny) Flajs; grandchildren, Ben (Lyndsey) and Aaron (Heidi) Conger, Jenna (Donny) Burchett, Lucas (Katy) Goforth, Megan (Quentin) Gummer-Clark, Lindsey (Christopher) Stevenson and Abby (Thomas) Hostetler; 13 great grandchildren and 2 more on the way! In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to your local food bank.
