Ruth Arterburn, 92, of Plainfield, passed away October 18, 2021. Ruth was born in rural Brown County, Indiana to Ray Barringer and Myrtle Greenlee Barringer. When she was a teenager, her family moved to Columbus, Indiana where she graduated from Columbus High School. She and her mother were members of the first congregation of the Church of Christ in Columbus. A few years later she met Edward Arterburn at church, and became his wife on December 22, 1956. Both Ed and Ruth led lives in service to their God and taught their children the value of doing the same. Together, they were a wonderful example of a godly, loving couple. Ruth was a loving grandmother who derived great joy from spending time with her grandchildren. Later in life, she also developed a special love for her cat, Mittens. She worked for the Social Security Administration for 29 years as a service representative. She was a member of the Plainfield Church of Christ. Ruth is survived by four sons, Ray, Tim (Becky), Gene, and Charles Arterburn; a daughter, Sharon Jones; 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Arterburn and a daughter, Marie Turner. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, October 25, 2021 at the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, October 26 at 10:30 am in the funeral home. A graveside committal service will be a 1:00 pm on Tuesday at the Garland Brook Cemetery, Columbus, IN.
