Rodney J. Hampton, 64, of Clayton, IN passed away July 13, 2017. He was born February 4, 1953 in Indianapolis to the late Roy and Ruth Hampton. He worked as a mechanic with YRC and retired after 34 years in 2012 in sales management. Rod was currently working as an operator for Eli Lilly & Company. In his earlier years, he enjoyed competing in tractor pull competitions around the Midwest. Rod was a member of Stilesville Christian Church and Plainfield FOE # 3207. He was a former board member of Hendricks County Cattlemens Association and Hendricks County Fair Board. He was also the former director of the Indiana Shorthorn Association and a Hendricks County 4-H leader. Funeral services will be Friday, July 21, at 10:00 am in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may call on Thursday, July 20, from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. Burial will be in Stilesville Cemetery. Rod was preceded in death by a daughter, Lesley Willis. Survivors include his wife, Linda Hampton; daughters, Abby (Doug) Whicker and Cory (Tim) Fry; stepsons, Nathan C. and Joshua E. Brown; son in law, Kevin (Angie) Willis; brother, Michael (Sue) Hampton; sister, Beverly (Richard) Bowen; grandchildren, Dakota and Dalton Smith, Emily and Lauren Fry, Aubree Whicker, Ashton Willis and Kayson Brown.
