Rita Mabe

December 23, 1945 — April 20, 2022

Rita L. Mabe of Avon passed away at her home on Wednesday, April 20th of natural causes at the age of 76. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Howard Mabe and Mary Mabe (Patten) of Plainfield and her sister, Julia Wade of Avon. She is survived by her brother, Greg Mabe (Maria) of Carmel and brother-in-law Tim Wade of Avon. Also, nephew Bryan Wade (Michelle) and nieces Kerri Peebles (Steve) and Stacy Maxwell (Ryan), and many great nieces and nephews. Rita graduated from Greenville High School in Mississippi in 1963 and later attended Delta State University. She was previously married to Willard Swords of Houston, TX and Billy Dykes, also of Houston. Rita worked in the training department of Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company in Houston for much of her career. After being downsized in the mid 1990’s, she moved back to Indiana to be near family. She worked many more years at the administration office of Indianapolis Public Schools. She loved that job and would often tell of the satisfaction she felt helping kids and their parents with administrative issues. Soon after retirement, Rita moved to Park Square Manor in Avon. She made many new friends and loved calling Bingo. She also loved animals very much and often talked about all the pets that some of the residences at Park Square had.  Funeral services will be Monday, April 25, 2022 at 1:00 pm in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home where friends may visit from 11:00 am until time of service at 1:00 pm.  Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Rita’s name to the Hendricks County Humane Society. http://www.hendrickscountyhumanesociety.org/
