Rick Smith was born to Bob and Barbara Smith of the Vienna, Illinois area. Rick was the oldest of five children. The family moved to Harvey, Illinois where he spent his early childhood. Then they moved to Vienna where Rick attended and graduated from Vienna Grade School and Vienna Township High School.
After graduation, Rick joined the navy and served his country for six years during the Vietnam era. Rick then moved to Indianapolis and was employed by the State Board of Health as a computer software specialist for over seventeen years. Then he was employed by IU Health where he worked as a computer programmer for over twenty-one years.
In 1985 Rick married Belinda Robinson from Vienna and she and her daughter Melissa moved to Indianapolis, making their home there. In 1986 Rick and Belinda had a daughter, Natalie and Rick was a devoted husband and father. He was a faithful Christian and member of Our Shepherd Lutheran Church.
Rick enjoyed music and was an accomplished guitarist. He also was a history buff, especially interested in the Civil War and WWII eras. Rick also enjoyed watching basketball especially IU and the Pacers.
Rick passed from this life to a better one on March 5th, 2019. He is survived by his wife Belinda, daughter Melissa(Jason) Hall, three grandchildren: JJ, Bryce, and Ashlyn. Rick is also survived by two brothers: Bob(April) Smith and David Smith(Mary McKean). He is also survived by one sister, Tammy (Larry) Choate, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Rick is also preceded in death by his daughter, Natalie in January 2015 and his sister Lori, in May 2017.
Visitation will be at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Avon, Indiana on Tuesday March 12th at 5:00p.m. and the funeral will follow at 6:00p.m.
There will also be a graveside service at Rock Springs Cemetery near Simpson, Illinois on March 16th at 1:00p.m.
