Reuben L. Pitts, 90, of Clayton, passed away March 22, 2023. He was born March 18, 1933 to the late Ray and Lovie (Guthrie) Pitts in Dickson County, TN. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Hazelwood Baptist Church. He met Sandra Irvin in 1981 and they were married shortly thereafter on September 4, 1982, in Hartsville, TN She was just who he needed in his life and he was her everything!
He was a finish trim carpenter by trade for over 30 years. He enjoyed listening to bluegrass music and long drives, especially to the forestry of Morgan & Monroe counties. He was known for telling jokes, as he enjoyed making people laugh. He never knew a stranger. He enjoyed the spotlight on him, when the timing was deserved, like birthdays and anniversaries, but in turn, he loved spoiling his sweetheart , just the same! He was able to celebrate 40 years of marriage with the love of his life and he was able to join that “elite 90’s club” that he so looked forward to being a part of!
He was a proud Army Veteran and loved his country, as a hard working tradesman. But even more, he loved his friends and family and their many gatherings in Tennessee, near where he grew up in Dickson County. His heart was big and his smile, even bigger! He will be greatly missed by all who loved him, especially his devoted wife, Sandy. Reuben is survived by his wife, Sandra L. (Irvin) Pitts; two sons, Steven L. Pitts and Chris N. (Debora) Pitts; a grandson, Steven Bradley Pitts and 2 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Monday, March 27, 2023 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may call on Monday from 11:00 am until service time at 1:00 pm. Burial, with military honors, will be at West Ridge Park Cemetery, Indianapolis.
