Earl Raymond Hamilton “Ramie” age 68 passed away on April 19,2025 surrounded by the love of his children and grandsons Gavin and Myles.
Ramie was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, and grew up in Plainfield where he proudly played on the football team and developed a lifelong love for the game. He had a strong entrepreneurial spirit; he built and ran a successful sign business for many years until illness made it difficult to continue.
Ramie had a deep love for music, with Elvis Presley always holding the top spot in his playlist. A self-taught guitarist with a memorable voice, he played from the heart. Whether at home or taking the stage as an opening act at the Little Nashville Opry.
Ramie found joy on the open road, especially when riding his Harley. At home, he loved settling in with a good movie, especially old Westerns, though he appreciated just about any film that told a good story.
Known for his sharp wit and unforgettable sense of humor, he could light up any room with a joke, a story, or just a well-timed one-liner. His personality was larger than life, and he never met a stranger he couldn't make smile. Though life wasn’t always easy, he met it with grit, laughter, and an undeniable charm that made him one of a kind.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025 at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home beginning at 11:30 a.m., where friends and family may visit from 9:30 a.m. until time of services. Burial will follow to Maple Hill Cemetery.
He is survived by his children: Earl Raymond III, Amber (Ben) Turpin, Matthew Hamilton, Heather Ramsey, Angela (Joe) Thomas; sister Jackie Altopp; grandchildren Gavin and Myles Turpin, Ramie and Wyatt Hamilton, and Katie and Noelle Thomas; nephew David Kidd, and former wife of 30 years Annie Hamilton; and many friends and loved ones whose lives he touched.
Preceded in death by parents Earl and Doris Hamilton, and former wife Susan "Susie" Hamilton.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to play your favorite Elvis song, take a ride on a country road, watch a good movie or share a laugh in his honor.
