Phyllis E. Walters, 84, of Plainfield, formerly of Sullivan, passed away February 24, 2019. She was born June 9, 1934 to the late Claude and Eunice (Pirtle) Walters in Terre Haute, IN. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana State University. She was a Speech and English teacher, drama coach and librarian for 33 years. She taught at Tipton High School for 1 year; Connersville High School for 6 years, and Northwest High School in Indianapolis for 26 years. She retired in 1990. Beyond teaching, Phyllis remained active in many other areas of her life. She was a member of the Kingsway Christian Church, where she served as their librarian, and the D.A.R. She was also a librarian for the Guilford Township Library in Plainfield. Her love for history and genealogy led her to volunteer many years for the Hendricks County Historical Society. Phyllis is survived by her nephew, Mark O. (Susan) Walters, and her niece, Robin L. (Olaf) Hansen. She was preceded in death by her brother, Norman Walters. Funeral services will be at 6:00 pm on Friday, March 1, 2019 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may call on Friday from 5:00 pm until service time at 6:00 pm. A committal service will be held on Saturday, March 2 at Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan, IN. Contributions may be made to the Hendricks County Museum, 170 S.
