Nancy V. Mitchem Swarn, 97, living in Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on April 27, 2018. She was born November 1, 1920 to the late Anderson and Emma (Pearson) Mitchem in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was the fifth of eight children, five brothers and one sister, all preceded her in death. In 1941, she married Churchel L. Swarn, her late husband and they made their home in Plainfield, Indiana. They had two children, Emma and Charles (Chuck), (deceased). She worked as a cook for the Plainfield School Cafeteria for 25 years. For 11 summers, she worked at the Girl Scout Camp Dellwood. She enjoyed photography and traveling with Churchel. She loved the Mitchem family and the Swarn family with all her heart.
She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. church in Plainfield. She was a saved Christian woman and knew that she was going home to be with God and her beloved husband, Churchel, and son, Chuck. She is survived by her daughter, Emma S. Parker; son-in-law, Wayman Parker; granddaughter, Cortney (Eric) Washington; grandson, Jeffrey Parker; and great-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Kyle, Gabrielle and Gabriele.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 5, 2018 in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield. There will be no calling.
