Max E. Daugherty, 84, of Plainfield, passed away August 13 2022. He was born August 22, 1937 to the late Charles and Virginia (Marshall) Daugherty in Lafayette, IN. He was a tool maker for GM Truck and Bus Plant for 50 years retiring in 2006. He was a member of Hope United Presbyterian Church. Max was a busy man. You could find him at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Indianapolis Reparatory Theater, attending his church Hope Presbyterian Church, or even riding a bike on the trails of Plainfield upwards of 10 miles every other day. He even walked a large portion of the Appalachian Trail, which he swore was all uphill. He ran over 20 mini marathons even up to his late seventies (one in a sling with a broken bone). He was a health conscious perfectionist, never letting anything get in the way of keeping himself moving, whether it be helping a friend, airing up a neighbor kid’s bike tires, or loaning out a tool that he so perfectly had organized in his famous garage. He and his wife traveled nearly all the United States together, often to his dismay of having to take off work. As a tool maker, he often said “I am so lucky to have found a job I enjoy every day”, not to mention the lifelong friends he acquired in his 50 years at General Motors. When he was coerced into traveling, he would come home and tell his family of his wonderful travels and experiences and always bring home precious souvenirs from each state and landmark he was so thankful to have experienced. His goals in life were abundantly achieved by setting examples of how to be a kind, thoughtful, loving, devoted husband, father, grand and great grandfather. He never knew a stranger and lived life to its fullest. His greatest achievement in life he often said was his family. The pride he had in having a family that loved him so much was always his most fulfilling piece of his life. Max is survived by a son, Kirk A. Daugherty; a daughter, Toni S. Norris; a brother, John Daugherty; 5 grandchildren, Sasha (Erik) Jensen, Missy (Justin) Rinehart, Duston, Sienna, and Shelby Daugherty; and 2 great grandchildren, Libby Dalstrom and Alek Jensen. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia “Ginny” Daugherty. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, August 18, 2022 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Friday, August 19 also in the funeral home. Contributions may be made to The Gathering Together, 147 N. Center St., Plainfield, IN 46168 www.hamptongentry.com
