Mary Lou (Wilson) Whalen, 92, of Plainfield was called to her heavenly home late in the evening on April 18th. She was born April 5, 1928 in Crawfordsville, IN to the late Dr Ralph G. Wilson and Florence Davis Wilson. Mary Lou graduated from Crawfordsville High School and then attended DePauw University where she was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority. She married her childhood sweetheart, Edward E. Whalen on January 18, 1948 and in 1961 they moved with their 2 children to Plainfield, IN. She was an associate member of the Plainfield Woman's Club and was an active member of Plainfield Christian Church. The greatest joys of Mary Lou's life were her beloved dogs and even more so, her family. Anyone who knew her can attest to this. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren proudly, fiercely and unconditionally. And above all, she faithfully, deeply loved and adored her dear husband of 61 years, they are now reunited and dancing together again. Mary Lou lived a life full of gentleness, kindness, grace and love. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband Edward Whalen in 2009. She is survived by her son, Alan Whalen (LyndaSue Snellenberger) and daughter Linda (Tom) McLarty; grandchildren, Amber (Brian) Heerdt, Andrew Larkin, Angela (Tom) Crocker, Christy (Barry) Personett, and Scott (Denese) McLarty; great-grandchildren, Benton, Mallory, Edie and Noelle Heerdt, Grace and Tommy Personett, Colston and Teigan McLarty. There will be a small family service Wednesday in Plainfield, after which she will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Crawfordsville. The family plans to have a gathering at a later time when all family and friends can come together to celebrate the life of Mary Lou Whalen.
