Mae Jane Elliott (West) 73, of Plainfield, peacefully returned home to the Lord on September 1st. Mae was born on February 8th 1950 to the late Ida and Chester West in Muskegon, Michigan. She spent most of her childhood in Virginia, before moving to Plainfield, Indiana in her adulthood where she worked out of her home as a hairdresser before spending 30+ years as a correctional officer for the Indiana Department of Corrections. Mae was a devout Catholic and a long-standing member of the St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church where she attended every Saturday night without fail. She was also a member of the Plainfield Eagles Lodge #3207 where she loved to play bingo every Friday with her best friends. Mae loved to spend time with her family, and especially cook for them whenever she could. Some of her favorite times were going to the casino with friends and family, laughing and having a great time. Mae cared for her loved ones deeply, particularly her dog Bella, who she loved to spend time with. Mae will be remembered for her love for her grandchildren, her contagious laugh, witty humor, and passion for the things she loved. She is survived by two children James (Leona) Elliott and Kathleena (Matt) Schuster; five grandchildren Caden Ellis, Katie (Chase) Mackintosh, Jared Ellis, Chloe Nelis, Sophia Nelis; great-grandchildren Jexlynn Mackintosh and Sloan Mackintosh. She is preceded in death by her siblings Delphi Dennis, Louis West, Johnny Adams, and Chester “Buddy” West. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, September 7 in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield.
