Luke R. Evans

July 12, 2002 — November 18, 2019

Luke R. Evans, 17, of Plainfield, Indiana passed away on November 18, 2019. He leaves behind parents, Greg and Krista; sisters, Kate and Bryn; brother, Ryan; grandparents, Dave and Sue Hoyt; and grandparents, Bob and Kathy Evans. He was born on July 12, 2002 in Mooresville, Indiana. Luke lived his elementary school years in Bella Vista, Arkansas, and his middle and high school years in Plainfield, Indiana. Luke was a gifted musician who developed proficiency on both the piano and the cello. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and used his musical talents to bless his church family by regularly accompanying the congregation on the organ and performing special musical numbers. During his middle and high school years, he participated in a wide variety of musical groups, including band, orchestra, winter percussion, pit orchestra, jazz band, and show choir band. Outside of school, he was a proud member of the New World Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and performed recently at the Hilbert Circle theater. Although music was his main passion, he also through the years participated in soccer leagues and ran cross country and track. He was happiest when he was busy and involved in lots of activities and groups. A straight-A and National Honor Society student, Luke planned to study music in college next year and hoped to focus on piano performance. Luke loved adventure and was always up for a new thrill, whether it was climbing to the peak of Angel's Landing, riding every roller coaster at Cedar Point, or braving a Level 5 rapid in West Virginia. Luke will be greatly missed for his intelligence, witty sense of humor, musical talent, and fearlessness. Visitation will be Monday, November 25, 4:00-8:00 pm at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, 106 Shaw Street, Plainfield, Indiana. Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 26 at 1:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2125 Reeves Road, Plainfield, Indiana. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to PHS Orchestra, Plainfield High School, c/o Treasurer, 1 Red Pride Drive, Plainfield, IN 46168.
