Lois Deane (Murray) Hargis, 83, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Monday, August 12th, at IU West Hospital in Avon, IN, supported by the love of family and a dedicated staff of caring nurses. She was born in Laurel County, Kentucky to the late Charlie & Audrey (Ingram) Murray on November 17, 1940. Lois spent many years as a homemaker caring for her family and raising her children. She eventually went to work outside the home, spending 25 years with Quaker Oats. Lois enjoyed playing bingo, sewing and cooking in her free time. She married Denton Lee Hargis, on December 31, 1961. As a married couple with a small family at the time, they moved from Somerset, KY to Indianapolis, IN, where they chose to expand and raise their family. Prior to Denton’s passing in 2015, Lois and Denton had been married for 53 years. Lois is survived by her sons, Dennis (Michael Reuther) Hargis, of Orlando, FL, Joe Hargis, of Indianapolis, IN and Darrel (Tina) Hargis, of Plainfield, IN; five grandchildren, Tim Gill, Amanda McCabe, Ethan Hargis, Daisy Hargis and Owen Hargis; and three great-grandsons, TJ Gill, AJ Simmons and Aleczander Simmons; as well as four siblings, Wilma Hubbard of Kentucky, Janice Boyd of Tennessee, Douglas (Rosie) Murray of Indiana and Barbara Hall of Indiana. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie & Audrey (Ingram) Murray; husband, Denton Hargis; daughter, Diana McCabe; two sisters, Judy Cunagin and JoAnn Gates; and brother, Charles Murray. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 21st from 4pm to 7pm with a funeral service to begin at 7pm at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home. Burial will be in Woodstock Cemetery on Charles Elgin Road in Eubank, KY, with a graveside service to be held on Saturday, August 24th at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association in memory of Lois.
