Linda McMurray Bell, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away Jan. 30, 2022 at the Sugar Grove Assisted Living in Plainfield, IN. Linda bravely fought cancer for over 4 years with the help of many good doctors at St. Francis Hospital in Greenwood, IN. Linda was the oldest of 5 children born to Richard L. McMurray and Carol Maxine McMurray (nee Rainey) who predeceased her. She was born April 26, 1950 in Crawfordsville, IN. Most of her childhood was spent in the countryside 3 miles north of Spencer, IN. Linda made many friends wherever she went because her heart was big and she loved to give gifts, sometimes anonymously. After graduating from Spencer High School and briefly attended I.U. in Bloomington, Linda deferred her studies to marry Damon Bell, a member of the US Air Force. Together they traveled across the states as Damon’s career dictated, finally spending the last year (1971) in Alaska. Alaska was where their only child, Ian Bell, was born. One of Linda’s earliest jobs was working for Bell Telephone Co. in Alaska. After working for RCA in Bloomington, IN and 25 years as a commissioned sales representative for Sears, Linda returned to college earning a BA in Public and Environmental Management from IUPUI. Ironically her last position was Administrative Assistant with AT&T (formerly Bell Telephone Co.). Linda loved her job and said she had the best boss in the world, Richard Hornback. Family was most important to Linda. She leaves behind her son, Ian Bell, his wife Jill, and their 3 children, Casey, Brady and Brielyn. Also surviving her are 2 brothers; Richard D. McMurray (Mary) of Arizona and Matthew McMurray of Terre Haute, IN. 2 sisters: Carol Miller (Sam) of Indianapolis, IN and Janet McCurry of Le Canto, FL. A celebration of Linda Bell’s life will be held at the John Wesley Free Methodist Church, 5900 W. 46th St., Indianapolis, IN on Saturday, Feb. 26th. Open at 1:00 PM. Services begin at 1:30 PM
