Larry J. Smith

Larry J. Smith, 82, passed away January 11, 2022. He was born March 25, 1939 to the late Emmett and Maxine (Wing) Smith in Indianapolis, IN. He worked 27 years as a diesel mechanic for Pennsylvania Truck Lines in Indianapolis retiring in 1980. He was a member of Connection Point Christian Church, Brownsburg. Larry was a true family man that showed endless love to his wife, two daughters, son-in-law, and grandkids. He loved a good day outdoors with his dog and spending his winters in Florida or visiting Disney World. He could always be counted on to lend a helping hand-- be it trimming bushes for his condominium community or jumping into home improvement projects. Larry enjoyed a variety of activities like Sunday school at Connection Point Church, Wednesday breakfast with the guys, and watching sports on TV. The family would like to thank the staff at Independence Village of Avon and Justin and Carmen of Paradigm Health for their kindness and support of Larry. Larry is survived by his wife, Rene (Hechinger) Smith; two daughters, Lisa (Rod) Chandler and Lori Smith; a brother, Gary (Joan) Smith; and two grandchildren, Madison and Garrett Chandler. Funeral services will be at 5:00 pm on Friday, January 14, 2022 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may call on Friday from 3:00 pm until service time at 5:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons or the Wounded Warrior Project.
