Kathleen (Kathy) Lucas, a longtime resident of Plainfield, IN, died yesterday, October 16th, at the age of 71. She is survived by the families of her two sons, Parke Lucas (daughter-in-law, Stephanie, and three grandchildren) and Ed Lucas (daughter-in-law, Karri, and three grandchildren). She also leaves behind a brother, Ron Williams, and a sister, Pat Manning. Kathy was born on October 12th, 1946, to Delbert and Martha Williams who preceded her in death. She was a 1964 graduate of Plainfield High School and attended Indiana State University. She worked in the family business, Williams Brothers TV & Appliances of Plainfield, IN, for many years and later for a second family business, Dixie Chopper of Central Indiana. She was a proud, active member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority at both the local (Xi Beta Pi Chapter) and Indiana State levels and was a frequent host for weekly sorority meetings. She held many offices in her decades of service within the sorority, culminating as its State President from 1988-1989. Through the sorority, she was an active volunteer for many organizations such as the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence. As a result of her tremendous positive impact and tireless energy toward the organization's missions, Kathy was chosen as Beta Sigma Phi's 1994 Indiana State Woman of the Year. Not only was Kathy a dedicated daughter and friend to many, but as an intrepid single mother, she beamed with pride attending all of her boys' school, sports, and performing activities, and she was a devoted grandmother who cherished family performances, movie time, holiday gift giving, and playing games with her grandchildren, preferring to be their "Mamaw Kathy." A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 21st starting at 11 am at Hampton Gentry Funeral Home in Plainfield followed by a memorial service at 2 pm.
