Julia Pauline Francis Jenkel, 101, of Plainfield, Indiana, passed away surrounded by loving family members on May 31, 2022. She was born on August 11, 1920, in West Frankfort, Illinois, to the late Charles and Grace Francis. Julia grew up in Franklin County and graduated from West Frankfort High School. She married Elvis Herman Jenkel on August 4, 1940, and they were married for 64 years. In 1957, she and Elvis moved to Plainfield where they raised their family and lived for more than 30 years. Julia was a dedicated homemaker. After her children were all in school, she received her LPN degree and worked as a nurse at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis until she retired in the late 1970s. Julia and Elvis loved owning and riding horses, fishing, and boating. She enjoyed quilting, bird watching and gardening. Julia and Elvis were members of the First Baptist Church in Plainfield. In 1992 the couple retired to their lake home on Truman Lake, Warsaw, Missouri. There they made many friends and were members of the New Home Baptist Church. In 2013, Julia moved to the San Diego area to live with her daughter, Colleen, where she was close to several family members and enjoyed many holidays and celebrations. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 2:00 pm in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home where friends may visit from 12:00 (noon) until time of service at 2:00 pm. Entombment will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery. Survivors include her daughters, Sidney Herness (John Wesley), Karen (Rich) Fleming, Colleen Johnson; son, Jeffrey (Cheryl) Jenkel; grandchildren, David (Julie) Herness, Neil (Summer) Herness, Jennifer (Dave) Matranga, Davey (Kirsten) Adams and Michael (Carolyn) Fleming; 10 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Ray (Jan) Stockton, Patsy Gower, Jane Allen, Michael (Cheyenne) Mitchell and Jack (Charlene) Mitchell. She is preceded in death by her husband, Elvis and older brother and sister, Joseph Francis and Murillian Allen. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent online or mailed to the Disabled American Veterans (575 N.
