Joshua Thomas Mitchell, 31, of Bloomington, passed away June 17, 2021. He was born October 29, 1989 to Thomas George Mitchell Jr. and Serena M (Cortes) Mahoney in Portland, Oregon. He was a 2008 graduate of Avon High School. He was currently a food service worker for Mother Bears in Bloomington. He is survived by his father, Thomas G. Mitchell Jr and mother, Serena M. (Derrick) Mahoney; two brothers, Thomas G. Mitchell III and Bradley D. (Maria) Mitchell; a sister, Christine Marie (Travis) Clark; his maternal grandparents, Gordon and Karol Saager; and paternal grandmother, Susan Beus. Josh registered to be an organ donor and we are so proud that he chose to give the gift of life to others. That gift is a testament to his kind heart and generous spirit. We are honored to have had him in our lives for his short 31 years. Josh was a talented, artistic, bright, funny, and very loving young man. He loved to paint and played a mean guitar. He loved Halloween and all things anime. He loved his family and was always thinking of others. He had an infectious laugh and always seemed to find the positive in any situation. He was a unique soul who set the stage for others to be the best of themselves. He accepted others for all that they are and stood up for those who needed it. He was a supportive older brother, uncle, and loving friend. He will be greatly missed!! We are immensely proud of Josh and his generous heart, sweet spirit and that he had the forethought to register as a donor. We know Josh will live on in 7 recipients and that truly warms our hearts and eases our minds. First of all we would like to thank from the bottom of our hearts, all those that have offered prayers, good thoughts, stories, memories and/or donated funds for his memorial. Many have reached out asking what help can be given and we are so very grateful for the kindness. In lieu of food or flowers we are asking for donations to help with the hospital and funeral expenses. The GoFundMe page is located here: https://gofund.me/d62b62a5 Again, we would like to thank all those that have reached out, sent prayers and/or shared memories and donated funds. It is appreciated more than we can express. It is truly amazing how many people have shared wonderful memories about Josh that we didn't know and conveyed their sorrow at our loss.
We will be honoring Joshua and his life at a memorial service at Hampton Gentry Funeral home in Plainfield on Saturday June 26th at 3pm, with visitation from 1pm until service time at 3:00 pm.. This will also include a live stream for those that are not able to attend.
