Jon "Jack" Pickerel

Jon Pickerel, affectionately known as Jack, 85, of Plainfield, passed away on July 5, 2023.  He was born on July 16, 1937 in Belleville, IN.  Jon was a Clayton High School graduate.  He was a United States Air Force veteran.  Jon worked for RCA as a shift supervisor for 18 years retiring in 1982.  After retirement he became a semi-truck driver from 1986 to 1991 followed by 10 years living in Nomomis, FL where he worked as an irrigation technician for Irrigation Design before returning to his home state of IN.  He proudly served as a volunteer firefighter and EMT for many years for the Clayton Fire Department.  Jon was a life long lover of county music and avid follower of Southern Bridges Band in which his youngest son is lead singer and enjoyed dancing and horseback riding in his free time.  Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Marjorie Pickerel; daughter, Evone Pickerel; son, Earl Pickerel; sister, Linda Pickerel and brother, Bill Pickerel.  Funeral services will be Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 1:00 pm in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home where friends may visit from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm.  Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.  Survivors include his children, Laura (Quinten) Raines, Selina (Terry) Lewis, Jacqueline (Dennis) Emberton; John (Jerri Rudd) Pickerel; brother, Thomas Pickerel; sister, Sue Purvis; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren; great grandchildren; and great great grandchildren.
