John "Jack" Kost, 83, of Plainfield, passed away on January 23, 2018. He was born in Plymouth, IN on April 1, 1934 to the late Clement and Thelma (Ford) Kost. Jack received his Bachelors degree from Indiana Central University. He then went to Indiana State University and received his Masters degree in education. He was a teacher for La Paz High School from 1957 to 1959, Plainfield High School from 1960 to 1965 and the Indiana Boys School from 1966 to 1999. To supplement his teaching income he started a painting business that lasted over 50 years. In what little spare time he had left he was co-owner of the Plainfield Dairy Queen. He was a passionate supporter of his many interests which included his family, Disney World, Chicago Cubs and I.U. Basketball. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Kay (Totten) Kost. Funeral services will be Monday, January 29, 2018 at 11:00 am in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home where friends may call on Sunday, January 28, from 2:00 to 6:00 pm. Inurnment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association. Survivors include his daughters, Jackie Kost, Karen (Manuel) Gentry, Karol (Kathy Woodall) Kost, Janet (John) Hardwick, Kathy (Greg) Crowe; son, Scott (Tiffany) Kost; sisters, Shirley Goepfrich and Katherine Chrapliwy; grandchildren, Lauren, Megan, Ryan, Zach, Erin, Ashley, JC, MacKenzie and Madison; great grandchildren, Charlee, Harper, Jax, Henry, Keelin, Knox, Finn and Indee.
