John E. Gentry, 84, of Evansville, Indiana, formerly of Avon, passed away Monday, September 4, 2017 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. John was born in New Maysville, Indiana on August 10, 1933 to the late John R. and Virginia (Brown) Gentry. He was a graduate of Avon High School. John was a Quality Inspector for Indiana Bell Telephone Company for 32 years and a Contractor for Contel for 12 years. He was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoyed working on phone systems, attended Faith Church of The Nazarene and was a member of the Murat Masonic Lodge of Indianapolis. He loved working in the yard and riding his John Deere. John will be deeply missed by his family and friends. John is survived by his wife of 32 years, Antoinette "Toni" (Westall) Gentry of Evansville, IN; daughter, Teresa Karr of Lizton, IN; sons, David E. Gentry of Avon, IN and Roy Andrew Gentry (Karen) of Indianapolis, IN; sister, Hazel Williams of Danville, IN; brother, Thomas Gentry (Anita) of Lawrenceville, GA; 2 step-children, Michael Head (Kristy) of Evansville, IN and Stacy Davidson (Michael) of Mt. Vernon, IN; 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents; son, John W. Gentry and a brother, Frank Gentry. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 9, 2017 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Planifield, where friends may call on Saturday from 10:00 am until service time at 1:00 pm.
