Joanna “Jo” (Hall) Martin, 78, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 21, 2020. She was born November 5, 1941 in Evansville, IN to Alfred S. and Mildred E. Hall of Boonville, IN. Following graduation from Boonville High School in 1959 as top ranking female student, she attended Indiana University, graduating in 1963 with a B.S. degree in Physical Therapy. She was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority. She met and married her husband of 57 years in 1962 while a student at the I.U. Medical Centers campus in Indianapolis. She was employed as a staff Physical Therapist at Crossroads Rehabilitation Center in Indianapolis while her husband finished his dental school training. Her first child, John, was born during this time. Following a 2 year stint in the Army, they settled in Bloomington-Normal, IL where she lived for 40 years raising 3 children. There they were active members of Grace Church in Normal. Jo served in many capacities over the years, her favorite being chairman of the annual church garage sale. She was also involved in several other Christian organizations while living in Illinois, including Winning Women of the Midwest, Christian Women’s Club, and Bible Study Fellowship. In 2009, they moved to Avon, IN to be nearer their 3 adult children and families. Besides family, friends and church, other interests through the years included tennis, antiquing, garage sales, thrift store shopping, travel, playing bridge, reading and crafts. Jo is survived by her husband, Dr. Richard A. Martin; 3 children, John David (Sharon) Martin; Susan Lynn (Mark) Bruning; and Peter Fredric (Megan) Martin; and 10 grandchildren, Sarah Grace (Jude) Johannson, Andrew John Martin, Jessica Jane Bruning, Alyssa Lorene Bruning, Marta Grace Bruning, Lydia Faith Bruning, Finley Grace Martin, Beau Fredric Martin, Brooks Richard Martin and Jude Bradford Martin. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews. Jo was an active member of Plainfield Christian Church and would like to thank all those far and wide who faithfully prayed, sent notes of encouragement and otherwise ministered to her during her illness. And a special thanks to her doctors, nurses, hospice team and others who cared for her during her battle with cancer. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 6:00 pm on Sunday, March 1, 2020 in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Monday, March 2 at the Plainfield Christian Church, 800 Dan Jones Road, Plainfield, IN 46168. Inurnment will be at a later date in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Grace Church, 1311 W.
