Bradenton, FL

Jerry D. Turpin, 81, passed away January 23, 2025.  He was born August 25, 1943 to the late Ray and Louise (Chastain) Turpin in Indianapolis, IN.  He worked for over 30 years for UPS retiring as a claims adjuster.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 500, the VFW 1111 in Mooresville, and the Forty & Eight.   Jerry Turpin was a father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He was a Vietnam War Veteran serving in the United States Marine Corps. He was a 6 time National Champion with the American Legion Post 500 Color Guard. He loved watching sports of all kind including college, pro and the Little League World Series. Loved reading books regarding history and sports and watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. While we lost our Dad many others lost a friend and loved one in him. He has been a rock to many, a master at sarcastic humor and witty timing to others and even a glorious pain in the neck, to what I’m sure is a select few because once you were marked as important to him, he’d be by your side if you needed him. There was so much more to him than just Dad, but to us that and being a grandparent was his greatest roll.   Jerry is survived by a son, ret. Lt. Col. Michael D. (Missy) Turpin; a daughter, Christina M. (George) Van Linder; a brother, Jim (Becky) Turpin; 6 sisters, Judy Guffey, Janice (Dave) Brandt, Nancy (Ed) Cook, Connie (Terry) Thurman, Darlene Daubenspeck and Pam Lagrange; 4 grandchildren, Briann Turpin, Charles Turpin, Sarah Turpin and Mariska Van Linder; and a great grandson, Jacob Perry..  He was preceded in death by a his wife Nancy; a brother Michael Turpin and two sisters, Marilyn Hurst and Linda Nickle.  Funeral services will be on Saturday,  February 1, 2025 at 3 00 pm in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may call on Saturday from 1:00 pm until service time at 3:00 pm.  Burial, with military honors, will be at Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield.
