Jeffrey R. Means, 73, of Avon, passed away on September 2, 2024. He was born to Thomas M. Means and Phyllis (Deremiah) Means on August 25, 1951. Jeffrey earned his Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Duke University in 1973. He later earned his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in pharmacology & toxicology from Purdue University in 1976 and 1977. Early in his career, Jeffrey worked as a staff toxicologist at pharmaceutical companies, Pfizer, in Groton, Connecticut and G.D. Searle, in Skokie, Illinois for many years. He later worked for Eli Lilly & Co. for 26 years before retiring in 2010. He was an avid supporter of his children's athletic endeavors; enjoyed spending gregarious times (including boating) with family and friends at Lake Monroe in Bloomington. Jeffrey also loved relaxing at his favorite vacation spots which included Panama City Beach, Florida and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was a proud donor to Gleaners Food Bank of Indianapolis, Covenant House and World Wildlife Fund. In dealing with his condition of secondary progressive MS, he spent his later years motoring around his assisted living facility and other venues in his power wheelchair. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 45 years, Frances (McCracken) Means, and survived by his son, Andy (Meghan) Means; daughter, Catherine (Adam) Hurford; 2 grandchildren, Lincoln and Ava Hurford. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024 at Traditions at Reagan Park (1176 Kingwood Dr, Avon, IN 46123) beginning at 4:00pm.
