Janice M. Lucie

July 21, 1946 — November 5, 2019

Captain Janice Claire Lucie (Morton) passed peacefully on November 5th, 2019 in Plainfield, Indiana at 73 years of age. 

Janice is survived by sisters Alice Morton of Greenwood, Indiana and Ann Morse of Plainfield, Indiana.  She is also survived by her nephew John Morse of Indianapolis, Indiana.

Janice was born on July 21, 1946 in Robinson, Illinois to John and Shirley Morton. She graduated from Indiana State University in 1968 with a degree in Home Economics. After a brief career in education, Janice enlisted in the United States Navy where she served our country in the Naval Recruiting Command for 26 years, retiring in 1995. In the Navy, Captain Lucie earned numerous awards including the Command Ashore Insignia, the Navy Recruiting Command Badge, the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Unit Commendation and the National Defense Service Medal. 

Janice was passionate about advancing the status of women in the military. She was extensively involved in supporting the Women in Military Service Memorial in Washington D. C. She was also very active in Girl Scouts and providing leadership development opportunities for youth. Janice was very generous in her financial support of her faith, environmental concerns and animals. Janice loved to spend time with her family and friends, travel and her dog Mikey. 

A funeral is scheduled for December 2nd, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Marshall Cemetery in Marshall, Illinois.
