James O. Harper, 92, of Camby, passed away May 31, 2022. He was the son of the late Raymond and Elsie (Randolph) Harper. He was born October 5, 1929 in Portland, TN, where he lived before moving to Indiana. He was a Korean War veteran serving in the US Army from 1951-52. He retired from Conrail where he worked as a brakeman. He is a member and a Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Mooresville. James was a devoted Christian and he enjoyed maintaining his cars and tinkering in his garage. He will be missed by his family and friends. James is survived by his wife Lucille (Joan) Harper; daughters, Sandra (Ernie) Tinsley, Debra (Randy) Harper, Charlotte (Mark) Powell and Judy (Eric) Vonessen; 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Slocum, Eric Blevins, Daniel Vonessen, Joy Powell and Katie Vonessen; 10 great grandchildren; a brother, David (Jane) Harper; a sister Peggy (James) Shanks; and numerous other family members in Tennessee. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Chris Blevins; a brother, Jerry Harper; and a sister, Martha Pirtle. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 9, 2022 in the First Baptist Church, 680 N. Indiana St., Mooresville, IN, where friends may call on Thursday from 1:00 pm until service time at 2:00 pm at the church. Arrangements by Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield.
