James L. (Jim) Ellis, 90 of Plainfield, passed away June 3, 2020. He was born May 26, 1930 to the late Charles and Clairemonde (Hutchens) Ellis in Plainfield, IN. He graduated from Clayton High School in 1949, where he played basketball and formed lifelong friendships with several classmates. He and his wife owned the original NAPA stores in Plainfield and Avon beginning in 1972, retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Center Community Church and the Belleville Masonic Lodge #65. He enjoyed restoring antique tractors and was a member of the Hendricks County Antique and Tractor Association in Danville. Anyone who knew Jim also knew that he was an avid IU basketball fan for decades, and he proudly wore his IU hat. Jim is survived by the love of his life, Alice (Daum) Ellis, two sons, Jay (Marian) Ellis, Chuck (Karen) Ellis; a daughter, Annette Ellis; 4 grandchildren, Chuck (Stephanie) Ellis, Amanda Ellis, Jeremy (Dawn) Ellis, and Josh (Sasha) Ellis; 3 great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his dear brother, Robert (Bob) Ellis. Because of COVID-19, calling and services will be private. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield.
