Jack H. Craig, 86, of Plainfield, passed away September 5, 2022. He was born May 30, 1936 to the late Harold and Bessie (Dickinson) Craig in Niles, MI. He was part owner of Thiele Heating and Air Conditioning for 36 years retiring in 2001. He was a member of Calvary Church, Plainfield. Jack’s father was employed with the railroad while he was growing up. Perhaps this is why he developed such a strong love for trains and was an avid collector of the LGB trains and accessories. He spent hours creating elaborate Christmas displays under the tree for his grandchildren to enjoy each year. As quoted by his sons, “dad purposed to stay on track throughout his life”. Jack also loved to gather diecast collector cars. The time he spent sifting and rummaging through antique stores in search of the perfect “treasure” was just as enjoyable as the find. If asked to describe him with just one word, Jack was a man of integrity. He loved his Lord and his family and he led his family through his faithful example. He was a devoted husband, father, grandpa, and great-grandpa. His love and provision for his family was his top priority his entire life. He was also a very generous, and joyful, giver. If he knew of a need within his family, church family, or neighbor, he was quick to respond. He was never looking for recognition because most of the time his giving was anonymous. He was just following the Lord’s instruction to help when you “see your brother in need” 1 John 3:17-18. Jack is survived by his wife, Carolyn B. (Vornehm) Craig; two sons, Kent A. (Kelly) and Mark A. (Colleen) Craig; two daughters, Debbie Neely and Terri (Frank) Polley; two sisters, Marilee (Phil) Bremeir and Bea Jo (Don) Dennis; a brother-in-law, Dennis Mauer; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Sue Craig and a sister, Patty Mauer. Receiving of friends will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at the Calvary Church, 1290 S. Center St., Plainfield with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery, Indianapolis.Jack had a specific passion for local and global missions work. He served on the missions board of his home church for many years. He also volunteered to help with the starting of several new churches in the Indianapolis Metropolitan area. His desire was to share the gospel throughout the world. Until we are reunited with him in heaven, we are committed to honor him and our Lord by passing along his principles and values to our families future generations. We will strive to be good stewards of the gospel of Christ that he trusted and shared with others. Matthew 25:21: “Well done good and faithful servant … enter into the joy of the Lord.”
