Everett Ray Deken
January 8,1939 - July 24, 2024
Everett Ray Deken, 85, of Plainfield, Indiana passed away on July 24th, 2024 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born on January 8,1939 in Adrian, Michigan to the late Everett Ray Sr and Ethel Deken.
Everett graduated from Brighton High School in Michigan in 1957 where he participated in varsity basketball, baseball, track, and singing in the chorus and opera. He was a class officer and sports editor of the yearbook.
During his time at Ball State University, Everett met his wife Judy Burgess of Muncie, Indiana. He left Ball State to serve as a Private 1st class officer in the United States Air Force for 4 years. While stationed in Paris, France as a Postal Service Agent, he enjoyed traveling to many countries.
Everett and Judy married in 1966 and moved to Plainfield, Indiana where he was very active in the Plainfield Rotary and a member of Kingsway Christian Church. They were married 58 years.
Everett founded the Deken Hale Insurance Agency as a property and casualty agent and financial advisor for over 30 years. Today, his legacy continues as the Deken Benjamin McPike agency in Avon, Indiana. In his free time, Everett enjoyed coaching Little League, going to Indianapolis Colts games with his friends, and playing golf. He was also a die-hard Detroit Tigers fan.
He is survived by his wife Judy, and their three children Norman (Betsy), Deborah (Dwayne), and Ronald (Leanne). He has six grandchildren: Laura, Kirsten (Josh), Caroline, Katie, Peyton, and Lizah, and four great-grandchildren: Sophia, Liam, Willow and Matteo. He is also survived by his twin brother Robert (Vicki) and his sister Carol. Preceding him in death are his parents Everett Deken Sr. and wife Ethel, and his siblings Grace, Doris, and Raymond.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 31st at 10:30 AM with a funeral service to follow at 11:30 AM at Elm Ridge Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 4600 W Kilgore Ave, Muncie Indiana 47304.
