Ernestine Lee Meyer

May 19, 1938 — August 29, 2024

Plainfield

After 86 years on this earth spreading joy and happiness among her family and numerous friends, Ernestine Lee (Barnhart) Meyer left us on August 29, 2024, to join her family and friends who had preceded her in death. Ernestine was born May 19, 1938, to Ernest Lee Barnhart and Mabel Katherine Barnhart (Wright). She graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1956. After a short courtship, Ernestine married Marvin Franklin Meyer on October 19, 1957, with who she had three children, Donald Marvin Meyer, Sandra Lee Krol (Meyer), and Bradley Alan Meyer. Together they formed a loving, devoted family, and provided a great role model to their children in raising their own families. In addition to being a full-time mother, she held various jobs throughout her life, from selling socks as a teenager at L.S. Ayres to being the secretary to the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent at M.S.D of Decatur Township until she held her final job as administrative assistant to the Indianapolis Airport Police Chief (or as she liked to say as the actual head of the department) from where she retired more than 20 years ago. From an early age, Ernestine developed a love of camping and fishing from her father, and from her mother, a willingness to always want to help others and a love of playing any and all card games. During these games, her competitive streak came out as she never liked to lose even one game, which is an attitude that she passed along to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Ernestine never met a stranger, and she was always willing to strike up a conversation with anyone at any time or place. This attitude of friendship and openness resulted in many life-long friendships for her in the various organizations of which she was part, including persons at Plainfield United Methodist Church, the Red Hats, the 56ers from high school, and the Aqua Nets at the Plainfield Aquatic Center. Her openness and enthusiasm for life was never more apparent than when she attended all the school, church, and sporting events of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Family members preceding her in death are her parents Ernest and Mabel, her husband Marvin, her son-in-law Ed, and her siblings Myrtle Parsley, Don Barnhart, Barbara White and Kay White. Ernestine is survived by her children Don Meyer (Kimberly), Sandi Krol, and Brad Meyer (Jodie), her grandchildren, Matt, Zack, Christopher, Whitney, Kelly, Luke, Olivia and Sophie, and her great grandchildren, Josiah and Sarah; Lillian and Zebulon; Ada and Elias; Noah, Savannah, and Aiden, and Grant and Jace. Services will be held at Plainfield United Methodist Church on September 5th at 11:00 am, with visitation preceding at the church beginning at 9:30 am. Following services, Ernestine shall go to her final resting place next to her husband at Maple Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial gift to the music programs at Plainfield United Methodist Church.
