Emory Eugene “Gene” Watson, 89, of Danville, passed from this life surrounded by his family at 10:50 p.m., Monday, October 18. He was born July 8, 1932 in Plainfield to the late William Gobel and Dollie Edith (Hashman) Watson, one of nine children. Gene served his country proudly as an anti-aircraft gunner in the United States Army during the Korean War 1952-1954. Gene returned home and met the love of his life, Doris Ann Drennan. The two married January 21, 1956. They raised their family together over the next 49 years, having three sons and two daughters. Doris preceded him in death, August 10, 2003. He retired July 31, 1992 to spend more time with his family: hunting, gardening, fishing, being outdoors, telling jokes, and watching several sporting, dance and theater performances.
