Donald E. Hunter

Donald E. Hunter, 84, of Plainfield, passed away December 3, 2022.  He was born December 20, 1937 to the late Charles and Othella (Goins) Hunter.  Donald loved to travel, go fishing and eat ice cream. He has traveled to every state in the US except Delaware. Most of his travels included some type of fishing. He went fishing in Canada, Blue Marlin fishing in Hawaii, and many many trips to Emerald Isle, NC for deep sea fishing. This location also became a family vacation spot that the family still goes to today. Donald loved to build things, working with his hands. Over the years he has built a home, garages, barns, patio’s, decks, and sheds, as well as traveling on mission trips to help build and repair. He loved playing with and teaching his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He served in the Unites States Air Force and retired from CSX Railroad after 36 years of service. During his retirement years Sherry & Donald served at Metro Baptist Mission and Lynhurst Baptist Church Mission.  Donald is survived by his wife, Sherry (Gilkerson) Hunter; three daughters, Priscilla Cross, Tonya Mehring and Donna Franklin; three sisters, Kathy Crownover, Mary Roque and Shelia Gilbert; a brother, Bob Goins; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles II, Cecil, and Roy Hunter;  a sister, Alma Hansley; and a grandson, Raymond Jones.  Funeral services will be at  1:30 pm on Wednesday, December 7, 2022  in the Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, where friends may call on Wednesday from 11:00 am to service time at 1:30 pm in the funeral home.   Burial, with military honors, will follow in Fairfield Friends Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 50 E 91st St. Ste 100, Indianapolis, IN 46209 or www.alz.org/indiana
