Debra Sue (Phillips) King, loving Mother, Sister, and Friend went home to Heaven on June 23, 2023 after a courageous battle with ALS. Debbie, aged 69, was born on January 11, 1954, to Betty Genaro and Leon Phillips. She grew up in Plainfield, Indiana and graduated from Plainfield High School in 1972. Debbie dedicated her life to caring for others not only as a Licensed Practical Nurse and Home Health Caregiver, but to her family and friends. Her children and her grandchildren were her entire world. Collecting vintage jewelry and giving gifts to others was Debbie’s passion, along with antiquing, garage sale-ing to hunt for hidden treasures, going to the annual Covered Bridge Festival, and celebrating the holidays in a big way with her family. The holidays were very special, and she would always find and create the most amazing gifts for everyone dear to her by making them a gift basket tailored especially for them. She was immensely meticulous, thoughtful, and creative, and the gift baskets she put together were nothing short of masterpieces. Debbie’s physical abilities were cut short by this horrible disease and its effects, but it never broke her spirit and her undying compassion that she always had for her kids and grandchildren (who referred to her as ‘Grammie’). She will be immeasurably missed but we know God called her beautiful, young soul home for a greater purpose. Debbie is survived by her children, Brian Calvert of Camby, IN, Tiffany Cring of Westfield, IN, Kristina Brickler of Plainfield, IN, and Levi (Michelle) King of Whitestown, IN; her husband, Daniel King of Brownsburg, IN, her brother Anthony (Debbie) Genaro of Indianapolis, IN, brother Charles Phillips of Florida, half-sister Ann Hall of Chicago, IL, the three ‘loves of her life’ grandchildren, Daymond, Lauren and Brayden, and six grand-doggies, Dixie, Zeppelin, Scooby, Chewie, Vada and Rey. Debbie was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Genaro, her father, Leon Phillips, grandparents Verlie and Ethel Bryant, and her best friend – her Dachshund Shelby. Please join us in celebrating her life on Saturday, July 1st with visitation from 11am to 2pm at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, with a funeral service at 2pm. Burial will immediately follow at Clayton Cemetery.
