Dale Eugene Unger, 87, of Plainfield, passed away peacefully at Greenwood Healthcare Center on April 7, 2018. He was born in Clay County on March 25, 1931 to the late Clarence L. and Mildred A. Unger. Dale served proudly in the Air National Guard Reserve and later in the Marines during the Korean War. Dale married his childhood sweetheart JoAnne (Lewis) Unger "Jody" on September 14, 1951. Together they had two children, his daughter, Vickie Mitchell who will miss him dearly and his son, Gary Unger. His wife JoAnne passed away on August 8, 1999. Other survivors are a sister, Margeret Nickles; brother, Marvin Unger; grandsons, Ryan Dale Mitchell and Tyler Joe Mitchell. He has two great grandkids, Sophia Mitchell and Jaxon Moon; two step-grandchildren, Meagan Mitchell Moon (Jason) and Ethan Mitchell. Dale enjoyed boating, skiing, fishing, hunting, playing cards with his family, Indy Car and Nascar racing. Dale and JoAnne owned and operated three successful businesses; Town Tavern, Elite Hair Fashions and the Mill Creek Inn. Dale has spent the last 3 1/2 years living at Brickford Assisted Living where he received excellent love and care. Visitation will be held at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home on Friday April 13, from 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 14, at 10:30 am. Burial will be in Center Valley Cemetery.
