Carolyn Rose Kitchens

Carolyn Rose Kitchens, 87, of Monrovia, was born on November 1, 1935 to Mark and Sylvia Shugart of Carmel, Indiana.  She was a graduate of Westfield High School.  For many years she worked in the cafeteria at the Carmel High School.  She married Jim Kitchens in August of 1974, & they were together until his death several years ago.  After her husband Jim retired they moved to Switzerland County, Indiana.  They purchased 150 acres that overlooked the Ohio River.  After several years there, they built a home right near the river.  She loved riding her 4-Wheeler through the woods, on the hills and trails they had carved out.  She loved watching the deer and other wildlife on their property.  She especially enjoyed sitting on their deck and watching the coal barges travel up and down the Ohio river.  Growing up, her father had an airplane.  She loved flying and would go every chance she got.  She enjoyed traveling, and she and her husband Jim made many trips.   She was, for many years a member of Grace Baptist Church in Madison, Indiana.  Five years ago it became necessary for her to move closer to family.  So for the last five years she has lived in Monrovia, Indiana.  Since her move she has been a member of Hazelwood Baptist Church.  Her family remembers her as sweet, loving, kind, feisty at times, but always a wonderful mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She went home to be with Christ on July 25th, 2023 at the age of 87.  She is survived by her four children Steve Rich and his wife Shelly, Scott Rich and wife Jeri, Robin White, and Mark Rich and his wife Shelia.  She had nine grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Shugart.   We will always love her and miss her very much.  Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 29. 2023 at the Hazelwood Baptist Church, 9838 S. County Road O, Hazelwood, and where friends may call at the church on Saturday from 11:00 am until service time at 1:00 pm.  Burial will follow at Center Valley Cemetery, Belleville.  Arrangements by Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield.
