Bill "Willie" Basford, 92, of Plainfield, passed away on February 10, 2018. He was born in Owingsville, KY on August 25, 1925 to the late William and Artie (Nealis) Basford. Bill was an United States Navy veteran of WWII. He was a carman at Penn Central Railroad for over 33 years before retiring. Bill enjoyed retirement for about six months. He then started working for Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home retiring 24 years later. Bill was a lifetime member of the I.O.O.F. of Indiana. He was a member of the American Legion Post 500 and the Plainfield Lions Club. Bill was a serious boxer in his younger days and was a Golden Gloves winner. He enjoyed playing horseshoes and watching all sports. Bill loved every kind of racing possible. He was preceded in death by his wife, LaDonna Basford; son, Larry Basford; brothers, Carl, Earl and Elden Basford; sisters, Marie Shonkwiler and Roxie Walterman. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday, February 16, 2018 at the Maple Hill Cemetery Chapel (709 Harding Street, Plainfield, IN, 46168) where friends may call from 10:00 am until time of service. Survivors include his son, William Jr. (Ruth) Basford; brother, Clyde Basford; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren.
