Anna Mae Perry went to be with the Lord on March 23, 2025, at the age of 96 years old. Born Anna Mae Tharp on March 7, 1929, in Greenville, Ohio, she was raised with her beautiful sisters Phyllis, Barbara, and Nancy, and brother Theodore Jr., all of whom preceded her to glory.
After Anna graduated from Ansonia High School (Ansonia, Ohio) in 1947, she went on to study at The Chicago Evangelistic Institute. There, as a young woman of faith with a sweet voice for song, she joined the traveling Vennard a cappella Choir. In addition, she had a love for southern gospel music and attended many gospel sings. Anna also attended God's Bible School and College in Cincinnati, Ohio. Anna graduated with a degree and later was certified in data entry from Indiana Vocational Technical College in 1982.
Anna had a mischievous side to her. Her eyes widened at the thought of chocolate! Always a considerate and loving person, she made everyone comfortable with her welcoming manner.
Her compassion also extended beyond people, as she provided pet-sitting services for decades.
A beauty in face and form, she caught the eye of Howard Darryl Perry, and they married in November of 1953. In 1955, they were blessed with twin sons, Steven and Rodger, and later with a lovely daughter, Brenda. Anna was one of the best mothers, with patience and resolve enough to handle two rambunctious boys while guiding a precious girl to bloom.
In her later years, she enjoyed traveling with friends to Europe and Alaska and visiting grandchildren in California and Alabama. She regularly attended Lakeview Church in Indianapolis, Indiana for many years.
She remained remarkably independent and kept abreast of the country's political pulse. She enjoyed the hobbies of treasure hunting at thrift stores, solving word puzzles, and tending to her beautiful flowers.
She displayed inspiring resilience from youth to her twilight. She kept the faith and earned her crown. Funeral services will be on Monday, March 31, 2025 at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m., where friends and family may visit from 12:00 noon until time of services. Burial will follow to Maple Hill Cemetery.
Anna is survived by sons Rodger and Steven, and daughter Brenda, as well as many nieces and nephews. Seven grandchildren: Travis, Samantha, Ransom, and Amy from Rodger. Abel, Kristine, and Robert from Steven. Nine great-grandchildren: six from Abel and three from Samantha. Abel's daughter, Alyssa, will be the first great-granddaughter to wed in 2026. Anna was very well-loved and will be greatly missed.
