Amelia “Elizabeth” (Hawes) Anderson passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, August 3, 2024. Elizabeth was born on September 27, 1922 in Claude, Texas, to Samuel Hawes and Laura Cobb. The Hawes family farmed wheat, and as a result of the Dust Bowl, in the early 1930's they moved to Daviess County, Kentucky. Elizabeth graduated from Daviess County High School in 1940, then worked at Ken-Rad in Owensboro for two years before moving to Evansville, Indiana. There, she was a real life “Rosie the Riveter,” working in a Frigidaire factory riveting the fuselages for P-47 aircraft during World War II. When the War ended in 1945, Elizabeth reunited with her sweetheart, Marvin J. Anderson, marrying on March 7, 1946. The pair briefly lived in Bowling Green before moving to Louisville, then to the Indianapolis area,settling near Mooresville on their beloved Joppa farm. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Hawes and Laura Cobb, her husband Marvin Anderson, and her siblings Malcolm Anderson, Bruce Anderson, Samuel Anderson, Lewis Anderson and Rebecca Moreland. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 24 at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home at 5:00pm, where friends and family may visit from 2:30pm until time of service. An additional Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, August 25, 2024 starting at 2:00pm at Martha's Orchard (6578 S County Rd 400 E, Clayton, IN 46118.) She leaves behind three children, Gary, Donald (Karen), and Bruce (Nicole). She was grandma to Laura Sutton (Steven) and Rebecca Hameda, and proud great-grandma to Kayden, Trent, William, Atticus, Mara, and Elio. She leaves behind many other family members and close friends as well.
