Alice "Sue" Barry

Alice "Sue" Barry, 94, of Clayton, passed away on September 18, 2024.  She was born on December 6, 1929 on a farm near Bridgeton, IN to the late Howard & Irma Dowen.  Sue graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1947.  She graduated from Canterbury College in 1950 and then received her Master's from Indiana State.  Sue was a teacher for 20 years at various different schools including Amo, New Winchester, Stilesville, Eminence, Brownsburg and Cascade.  She belonged to the Amo United Methodist Church, Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority and the Alpha Theta Sorority in college.  Sue enjoyed going to High School basketball games with her husband, Gilbert.  She also liked playing the piano and gardening in her earlier years.  Sue loved spending time with her family.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gilbert Barry whom she was married to for 67 years; sisters, Helen Louise Remington, June Kloster and Frances Beabout.   Funeral services will be on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at 1:00 pm in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home where friends may visit from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm.  Burial will follow in Clayton Cemetery.  Survivors include her daughter, Sue Anne (Tom) Stein; son, John Barry; sister, Anne James; grandchildren, Brad Ferguson and Joshua Barry; 6 great grandchildren.  In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Grace Baptist Church (8246 IN-75, Coatesville, IN 46121)
