Alice Lucille (Malone) Ray, 89, of Plainfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 25, 2017. She was born in Tell City, Indiana on September 18, 1927, daughter of the late Frank and Hettie (Simpson) Malone. Also preceding her in death was her husband Robert E. Ray and daughter Mary Beth (Ray) Carr. Alice was a registered nurse and supervisor of nursing at Hendricks County Hospital for 25 years until she retired at age 65. She graduated from Tell City High School and Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing where she was the valedictorian of her graduating class. She was a lifelong member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Tell City. She married Robert Ray on September 30, 1950. She, along with her husband, were founding members of St. Susanna Church where she was a member of the Ladies Club for several years. She had a great love for her family and will be missed dearly. She is survived by five sons: Stephen Joseph Ray (Pat), Fillmore, Gregory Thomas Ray (Theresa), Martinsville, Christopher Robert Ray (Lisa), Clayton, Robert Eric Ray, Indianapolis, Mark Franklin Ray (Laura), Camby; three daughters: Lisa Ann Hovious (Michael), Mooresville, Therese Lynn Cokain (Jeffrey) Avon, Sarah Lucille Rose (Michael), Mooresville; sister, Beula James, Tell City; brother, Earl Malone, Newburgh; 22 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM EST Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at St. Susanna Catholic Church with burial at Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 6:00 PM Monday, May 29, at Hampton Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield.
