Morris A. Hampton, 83, of Plainfield passed away Friday, Nov. 12, 2010 at St. Vincent Hospital. He was born Feb. 10, 1927 in Stilesville, IN to the late Glen and Iva Hampton. He was a mechanic and lifelong farmer who farmed in Hendricks County for more than 30 years. He served with the US Army in a hospital in Italy for 11 months at the end of World War II. He was a member of the Plainfield Friends Meeting and was a member of several community organizations throughout his life, including Kiwanis, Greencastle VFW, Cascade Community Lions Club, International Harvester, Mill Creek School Board, Property Trustee of Western Yearly Meeting, Secretary of Stilesville Cemetery Association, Crystal Bay Board, Hendricks County Fair Board, Hendricks County Pork Producers, Trustee of Franklin Township, Hendricks County Tax Board, and the Hendricks County Agriculture, Stabilization and Conservation Commission.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Marjorie, two daughters, Diana (Clark) Hadley and Faye (Buddy) Mosier; three grandchildren, Lindsay Hadley, Evan and Rachel Mosier, one great-grandchild, Landin Mosier, sister Ernestine (Gene) Cooper, and 14 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by six siblings: Claude, Ruth (Whitaker), Jack, Roy, Robert, and James.
Calling will be Monday evening at Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home, Plainfield, from 4-8 p.m.
Graveside services at Stilesville Cemetery will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday with a memorial service at Plainfield Friends Meeting Tuesday at 4 p.m.
